We believe nourishment is a right—not a privilege.
Our work is led by disabled Black, Brown, and Indigenous women & nonbinary leaders with deep roots in Chicago and Milwaukee.
We address food apartheid and environmental violence through hands-on education, community organizing, and wellness access.
Every program we run is designed to restore cultural knowledge, build self-sufficiency, and ensure our communities can feed, heal, and sustain themselves for generations.
The Green Hub Project combats food apartheid by creating restorative spaces with access to fresh food, wellness tools, and education. Through foraging, medicine-making, and earth stewardship, we empower communities to reclaim traditional practices and build self-sufficiency.
By linking food to health, we foster long-term wellness and a deeper connection to land and collective well-being.
The People’s Apothecary - inspired by “The People’s Free Food Program” and “Free Little library” models, reimagines food access and supports reclamation of traditional knowledge . These fully stocked mobile pantries are being erected in low income & high traffic areas and offer free herbal goods, teas, edible and medicinal plants. Our hope is for The People’s Apothecary to become a hub for connection and information exchange, ultimately with each one being stewarded by community members.
Who It’s For:
Anyone who wants to give Mother Nature a chance to help improve your physical, mental and emotional health!
Brown People Foundation believes that access to nature is a human right, and earth stewardship is an innate responsibility that comes with that right. We facilitate workshops, plant identification and foraging walks, medicine making, and lectures highlighting the benefits and uses of herbs and plants - particularly those classified and labeled as “weeds.” Our goal is that with every workshop, walk, and lecture folks walk away feeling more informed and empowered about their health and how it is tied to the health of our planet.
